Q: The difference between DoP mode and D2P mode of X3II/X5II/X7's SPDIF Out.

A: There are two modes of using the SPDIF Out: D2P (DSD to PCM) and DoP (DSD over PCM).

Under D2P mode, you play the PCM signal and will get the original PCM signal out. When playing the DSD signal, system will convert the DSD signal to PCM signal and output.  Under DoP mode, PCM signal can be directly outputted and so does DSD signal. However, to have the signal output, the coaixal device connecting with the DAP needs to support DSD. It can only support up to DSD64 signal when SPDIF Out, higher specs format like DSD 128 is not supported.

Note: On the current firmware FW2.0 for the X7, the default coaxial output is D2P. So it may cause that the Coaxial feature on the X7 can not work after updating to FW2.0, because your coaxial device can not support DSD.
We will add the D2P/DoP option feature to the X7 by the future update, so pls don't worry.

I have the same question.

Hi, faline, x7 supports the 5.1 flac music file, but its output will be two channels. It just chooses two channels to output.

Yes, I tested 5.1 music file, and it plays, but volume level is extremely low! You should increase it by 3 times to hear it normally. Does it mean X7 plays only 2 channels with other 3 omitted. It would mean it does not choose and join channels into a suitable 2-channel stereo?
And what about the line-out - will a receiver play the-god-knows-which 2 channels of the total 5.1?
Will the receiver play 5.1 via coax out (say it supports the format being transported)?

Did you connect x7 to the speaker of the headphone as you said that the volume level is low. In theory, it would choose two channels, but the volume wont be low.
To the line out and coax out, yes, it will be the same with PO. They also chooses two channels.

FiiO DAP shouldn't "choose" two channels but passthrough on dig. coax. or to the worst, default to 2.0 DPL II or simple 2.0 downmix; I think.

I think that dig. coax. should be configurable from the menues to output:
-- as is dig. stream to dig. output
-- transcoded to 640kbs x.y ac3 (x from 3 to 5; y from 0 to 1)
-- 24b dig. 2.0 downmixed (DPL, or DPL II)
// note that as for myself I feed my 5.1 system with original streams passed throught from a HDD whereas I keep 2.0 up to 24b/48khz flac streams on my FiiO X5 II; avoiding lossy codecs as much as possible but not storing original DSD of PCM HD files otherwise on the X5 II.

Maybe the FiiO DAP architectures do not allow anything but DSD or PCM 2.0 output and that is the reason why only two channels are re-muxed (not-yet-remixed?) to dig. coax.?
