Q: Whether E17K can decode for smart phones with Apple or Android system?

A: The E17K was designed chiefly as a USB DAC for computers;  it has not been purposely designed for use with smartphones and we make no claim that it would work.  For USB decoding from smartphones, you may try turning off USB charging on the E17K and then connecting it to your smartphone with a USB OTG cable, but we cannot guarantee that it would work.

Since E10K and E17 work being conected using a OTG Cable to an Android phone, this one should work if you got Android 5 or al least having Viper4Android installed.

I can report E17K DAC functionality works 100% with an LG G3 using both a Lindy (£7) and no-name (£1) micro-to-micro OTG cable.

It also kinda works on a colleague's older Nexus tablet running an older 4.2 Cyanogenmod -- it passes audio but doesn't work properly after pausing. This could be a quirk of his Cyanogenmod build however; my older E07 (first generation) works perfectly with his device.

Interestingly, with my G3, when I first plug it in to the E17K, it reports 32 kHz at 16 bit -- as soon as I start playing audio, it shows a correct 48 kHz sample rate. Seems like Android isn't actually calling the audio functionality until the very moment it needs to pass audio data for decode?

Hi, thanks for your report!
We will record these test result, and share them with other customers if necessary!

For your last question, yes, only when the signal has been passed to the E17K, will it detect the property of the signal.

I have tested my E10K with my LG G3 running Android 5 and Viper4Android. It works directly and with a random OTG Cable.

In regards to E17, I saw it working in this post: http://www.head-fi.org/t/660463/ ... io-e17#post_9391099

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (ATT; N910A. Android 5.1.1) confirmed working with OTG cable, at 96kHz, 24-bit. One odd behavior I've noticed is that right after connecting the phone, the audio plays extremely slow / distorted and the only fix I've found so far is to have the phone play a system sound (lock / unlock phone, volume up/down, etc.) before playing any media files. Works fine after that until unplugged. If the audio starts distorted, only fix is to disconnect and plug in again, then play a system sound before other media (system sounds are also distorted in this scenario, and playing one after sound starts distorted doesn't correct the issue).

I think it is not compatible well with Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Maybe it is software issue.

Christopher you got it right with your LG G3 so How about making a small video on connection and upload it here so that most viewers can know to to use this type of OTG connectivity. Just a thought. Cheers

I think it is not compatible well witih Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Maybe it is software issue.

Both E17 and E17K work well with the Note 4. With both models you must turn off "USB charging". The E17 will work with Kit-Kat AND Lollipop. The E17K will work with Lollipop, but I am unsure if it will work in Kit-Kat (prior to the official USB driver from android). The E17 will work right out of the box. It is advised to have your media player opened before you plug it in (it CAN get wonky a bit). If it doesn't work the first time just unplug it then replug it.

The E17K works as well, but is much finickier than the E17. If you use HibyMusic player or USB Audio Pro, they will both work well on Android. This is because the apps have their own drivers that bypass the Built in default driver. This also has the bonus side effect of being able to play 24 bit files, where you cannot using the default android driver (which means pretty much all media apps that use the android driver).

It may show as 24 bit, but if you look around, you will find that the android USB driver is not capable of playing in 24 bit. Here is a quote from the USB Audio Pro app page:

Android 5 users: although Android 5 has some support for USB DACs, it is limited to 16-bit and sample rates of 44100/48000Hz. For high quality playback, you still need this app to enjoy 24-bit music at any sample rate your DAC supports.
I have noticed that the E17 devices both report incorrectly sometimes.

Some possible reasons for the sound being slow sounding could be the USB timing, or that they are expecting 44100 Hz but are actually getting it in 48000 Hz. The native sampling rate for android is 48000 Hz, and there is no way to choose the rate.

Here is a good page to look at that shows the android 5 USB audio limitations ( I don't know much about Kit-Kat since I no longer use it on any of my devices that are relevant to audio): Here.

Hi, My Fiio E17K isn't recognised by my phone. It's a Vodafone Smart Prime 6 and should support OTG. I'm using micro to micro USB OTG cables from Hakshop (tried two in case of faulty one.) I've tried for a connection from within Neutron player, and VLC. The Neutron developer mentions Fiio devices as potentially having a lot of "non-standard" or "buggy" USB descriptors. Wonder if anyone here can help? Thanks.

I bought my e17K for my Droid Turbo after reading online that it works for most Android phones.  But no matter what I try, it doesn't work.  It will play music stored on the phone itself but won't play anything that streams like Pandora.  I am running Android 5.1, connected via micro usb to micro usb OTG cable, and using USB Audio Player Pro.  Can anyone help me with this?

For those who are having issues getting the fiio to work with an Android 5.1 or higher smartphone, I just got it to work by downloading the Onkyo HF Player and purchasing the unlock option.  Doesn't work right away, but play with it a little and it will work.

Would E17K be compatible with Asus Zenfone 2 running Android.
C. Would E17K amplify songs played via android apps like Hungama, Apple Music.
D. Would E17K AMP/DAC make any difference and to what extent for each of these -
1. Sennheiser CX 180
2. Sound Magic E10S
3. JBL T250
4. Bayerdynamics DTX501p
5. Sennheiser HD 239
6. Audio Technica ATH M40X

E. In what ways E17K is better than E18

Hi, swapnilgirase, we have not yet tested the Asus Zenfone 2. E17k is mainly for PC rather than mobile device. To those headphones, if the headphone is easy to drive, the sound may be better. We don't test these headphones. To find the difference, it is suggested to test it in our seller's store.
To the comparison between E17k and E18, E17k has coax in, but E18 is without the coax in. You could see the difference between than in this link. http://www.fiio.net/en/products/20/comparisons
