Q: How to upgrade the X1?

A: ★Choose a TF card (micro SD Card) with FAT32 file system. If the update process fails, pls change to use a blank TF card with capacity under 32GB, and directly format it by X1 before the upgrade again.
★ The original file data in the TF card will not be corrupted when upgrading.
★Ensure that the X1 is sufficiently charged (preferably fully charged) before the upgrade to prevent power failure during upgrade.
★ Please do not charge this unit when upgrading.

Methods to Upgrading via TF card:
1. Choose a card with FAT32 file system.
2. Unzip the firmware upgrade package from FiiO and copy the x1.fw file within to the root directory of the TF card.
3. Turn off the X1 and insert the card into  the TF slot.
4. Hold the “Shortcuts” key (the key to the upper left of the scroll wheel) and then press the “Power / Lock” button to turn on the X1.  The following firmware upgrade dialog will appear.

★Do not press buttons or turn the dial on the X1 while the upgrade is in progress.
5. When the firmware upgrade is complete, the X1 will restart automatically.
★Please delete the x1.fw file from the TF card after the update is complete.
★Please update the media library again after the firmware update.

One item to add to the instructions here: the update process will NOT start if the device is charging using a connected  microUSB cable.  Once I removed the cable, the update process started fine.

I've installed the update, but my X1 still stops indexing at 5800 tracks.  Is this addressed in version 1.3?

Open up the X1, disconnect the battery, remove the OPA2322 opamp (marked O2322), replace it with OPA1642, reconnect the battery, close up the unit.

Viola! Upgraded X1!

Hi,
The limitation of the 5800 songs number still is not fixed in FW1.3. Our engineers are trying to fix it ASAP. Thanks for your understanding and waiting in advance!

Very cool.  Do you notice an improvement in the sound quality?  Is battery life about the same?

Can I download the update directly from my PC to the SD card while the SD card is inserted in my X1 and unzip it. Or does the update have to be downloaded and unzipped before inserting the SD card into my X1? Thanks

There is no difference
If you switch on your X 1 and hold the button left the existing fw-file is installed on your player

I know this is an older post, but for those considering this mod, I would not recommend it.
Exchanging DAC is not going to end well - OPA1672 is not designed for this kind of circuity.
